Among the first founded in Italy, the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology at Sapienza, University of Rome, has been active since 1982. Today, the department includes 55 faculty members and 6 technical and administrative staff members.
The Department is organized into four areas of study within the field of psychology and education: development, social processes, methods and learning.
Currently research is carried out on such topics as: language development, children’s prosocial and aggressive behaviour, cultural diversity in thinking, social interaction, conflict resolution, person perception, attitudes and persuasion, social attention, physical and social self, gender identity, adolescence.
Five Doctoral programs are offered in the field of Social Psychology, Development and Education.
The Department relies on 8 Laboratories equipped to carry out research in the field of language development, discursive interaction, ICT implementation, social processes, attention and learning, family dynamics. Moreover the Department provides counselling services: clinical counselling on family conflict, sexual orientation, learning difficulties.
Because of our commitment to excellencein research, the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology is consistently rated among the best at the University of Rome, Sapienza.
In the CHE 2009, the three departments of Psychology at the University of Rome retained the position among the most performing research departments in Europe.
