Seminario "Effects on the Willingness to Provide Help and Support in Cases of Violence Against Women. The influence of Group Norms"
Il Dipartimento di Psicologia dei Processi di Sviluppo e Socializzazione organizza il seminario "Effects on the Willingness to Provide Help and Support in Cases of Violence Against Women. The influence of Group Norms".
In this seminar Anna C. Baldry will examine the influence of moral ingroup norms on members’ willingness to provide help and support in Violence Against Women (VAW) cases, as expressed by 218 undergraduates who red a fictitious article from a newspaper, describing a VAW episode, and expressed their willingness to provide help to the victim, call the police, or report the case. Participants were faced with morality-based ingroup norms stressing the importance to provide help, support and report vs. not report (vs. a control condition), and then provided their willingness to help. Results showed that high identified participants (according to the Social Identity Theory) are inclined to adapt their behaviour to ingroup norms. Results will be discussed in terms of social identity concerns, and suggest some insights for the applied programs in preventing recidivism in WAV cases.
