Attività:

My research activity aims to understand the how we represent the (bodily, interpersonal and social) self and use those representations to understand (and interact with) the other. The main research stream focuses on the psychological and social variables contributing to the building and maintaining the sense of self, and on the interpersonal multisensory stimulation paradigms able to blur the distinction between self and others and change the representation of the self (i.e. to induce self-other merging).A second research stream aims instead to investigateself-other sharing mechanisms,i.e. thesimulative processes andresonant activity in neural structures involved in the first person experience of sensations and emotions, which sub-serve the understanding of others’ sensory and emotional states. These themes are investigated in healthy individuals, and secondarily in psychiatric and neurological patients with defective bodily and conceptual self-representations.The research activity is carried over by means of the successful integration of behavioural, neuroimaging (EEG), brain stimulation (TMS, tDCS), personality measures and social manipulations techniques.
